Two more wonderful days in New Zealand. NY's Day was spent on a trip to Mt Ruapeho with a picnic by the lake, kite flying and a chair lift to the top of the highest mountain in NZ. Today we have been on a jet boat trip down the River Wanganui to the Bridge to Nowhere! What a ride down the gorge! See you on Tuesday - Happy New Year! Mr H :)

31 December 2009 04:06:13
A great New Years Eve in Katieke! This morning we went around the farm - 7000 sheep and 400 cattle! The sheep were being mustered into pens by Trevor and Roger, the farmers, and their 7 dogs! Then they were being sorted into lambs and sheep that had been already sheared! This afternoon we went to look around Katieke School - a school with lots of rooms but only 6 children at the start of the new year. I have left the cards that our Year Two children made with Debbie, the Principal/Class Teacher. The afternoon has been spent at the Junction where two rivers join. The boys went fishing but caught no trout! This evening, we are going to a neighbours' house for a New Years' Eve Bar-B-Q. Happy New Year from Mr H :)
Mr Hales
30 December 2009 05:56:09
I'm now in New Zealand! I'm staying at Kaitieke which is in the middle of nowhere. Debbie has two great sons, Josh and Aaron. We have been to Lake Taupo and visited the thermal volcanic springs, a prawn farm and the Huka Falls. Hope you having a great christmas break! Mr H :)

24 December 2009 10:49:40
It's the evening of Christmas Eve here, but it does feel like an English Christmas. Some houses have Christmas lights and the shops have been very busy. My brother-in-law, Alex, and I have visited the Hunter Valley, where some of Australia's best wine is brewed. There are 140 wineries and we visited just 4! We tasted some white and red wines and bought a few bottles for Christmas. Marcy and Lois, my nieces, were really excited this evening and have been painting themselves with mud. They had to be washed down with the hose before having a bath! It has been really hot today - over 30 degrees! Anyway Happy Christmas to everyone! :)
Mr Hales
23 December 2009 02:50:38
Now it is Wednesday afternoon. I have spent the morning at the beach. You can find the beach photos on Google Images. Go to "Nobby's Beach + Newcastle + Australia". I saw so many different ways of travel - kayak, speedboats, coal tanker, helicopter, inter-city train, local train, ferryboat, cycles, cars, lorries, planes, seaplane and ...... roller skates and skateboards!!! Hope the snow is still keeping you all happy! Thanks for the messages - Chelsea and Travis! Mr H :)

To Sir Steven,
I thought that international week was sooooo cool! I really enjoyed working with Ana and I liked learning some Italian. I thought that class 1's can-can dance was really funny although I felt kinda sorry for some of the kids who got a bit sad.
See you on Monday,
Erin :) :) :) :) :) (Lots of smilies!)
P.S. I hope you get better soon Mrs. M!!!

Ciao, Erin! I'm so happy you enjoyed international week and that you liked all the Italian activities and language learning. Ana is on the plane home now, but I'm sure we'll keep in contact with her! Arrivaderci, Sir Steven :) :) :)

Greetings from North Carolina. I attended the primary school in 1962 (my dad was in the USAF). We lived in half of the Old Rectory for awhile (now a B&B?), and later moved to quarters on base. I also attended Syderstone. I have many pleasant memories of my two or so years around Burnham Market.

Good to hear from you, Jim. I'm glad you have good memories of Burnham Market. We continue to be a happy school serving 8 villages. Of course, Burnham Market itself attracts many visitors in the summer months - it becomes 'Chelsea-next-the-Sea'! Best wishes, Steven Hales (Headteacher)

Hi Mr Hales, I'm sorry this will be quite a long message, but I can't help that. It will be of all the jokes I know...
1. Q. What did the big candle say to the little candle?
A. I'm going out tonight!
2. Q. What did the mummy grape say to the daddy grape?
A. I'm tired of raisin kids!
3. Q. Why did the tomato blush?
A. Because he saw the salad dressing!
4. Q. What did the traffic light say to the car?
A. Don't look, I'm changing!
5. Why didn't the skeleton go to the party?
A. Because he had no-body to go with!
6. Q. What do skeletons say before they eat?
A. Boneappetite!
7. ( I can't think of a joke here) Q. Why do people call some proffesars mad?
A. I don't know! ( I made that one up!)

Bye, sorry it's supper time- 10 past 8 to be exact!
PS I may write some more!

Best wishes from Mr H in St Lucia, Caribbean :~)

Q - What happened when the Easter bunny met the rabbit of his dreams?
A - They lived hoppily ever after!
Ha ha haahha ahhaa - bom bom!

Hi Mr Hales
Happy New Year
Hope everything is well with you and your wife?
Is Your wife doing ok? I have a card for her but have not had a chance to give to joe as i have been unwell with a cold.
I don't know if you have heard but I have been honoured by the hospital Fundraising committy to hand a bouquet of flowers to the Queen on the 24th Jan next week. Before Easter I would like to hold a bingo to raise money for the childrens Ward ( Rudham Ward ), Will it be possible to hire the school hall to hold the bingo in? It would be great if i could use the school hall to hold the bingo in.
Could you reply on my mums email address: Amanda@glass1177.freeserve.co.uk
from Rachel Glass

We would love you to hold the bingo here and there's no charge!
Well done on meeting the Queen - at least, you didn't give her bananas!!! (Mr H)

Hello Mr Hales!
I've been updating our school website and reminiscing about when we set it up together, so I thought I'd take a look at yours. It's been lovely reading about, and seeing photos of your gorgeous little grandson. And I'm so pleased to hear from Mrs Clark that Mrs Hales is doing well. :) If you ever need a Reception teacher over there, give me a shout...I applied for a job there about 15 years ago, it was my ideal location so I'm very envious! Travis is still doing his 'up close and personal'! With a little bit of competition from Charley of course. Dave is doing well on dialysis and just recovering from a hernia operation. I hope you're ok healthwise and getting ready for the new school year.
We're about to have Promethean Activboard 2's put in all the classrooms, yikes!
Take care, Nikki

Great to hear from you and glad to hear that IT @ Clarkson continues to progress. BM is a great school and I am so glad I was appointed here. I really did not think I would become a Headteacher again, but this school is just right. Mrs H and I have been to Scotland and Wales this holiday. We often talk about Travis and his 'infamous' stay here. I'd love to have a dog, but I have to make do with our school dog, Roly, who has his own website! Best wishes to Dave and the 2 springers. LoL to U too, from Mr H

I have just found your site and I have to admit it's a far cry from the days I spent at your school.I left in 1960 at 15 years of age, in those days the 'top class as it was called wasn't in your school due to there being no room, after morning assembly we would walk down into Burnham for our lessons, is the building even there today? it was on back street, I believe it became a lampshade factory later on. Each lunchtime we had to walk back to the big school for lunch, which was a bit of a pain in the winter. This of course was in the days before you went onto Wells at eleven years of age. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who remembers me, perhaps I could swop some stories of the old times at your school with the grandparents of some of today's pupils . I now live on the Isle of Wight and have for the past 39 years. Good to hear from you, Tony! I'll ask around and hopefully someone will have a recollection! Best wishes, Steven

Hi Mr H. Me and emily are going to enter the pantomime horse of the year show together but we have come to a dilema that emily is a year three and i am a year 5. Which year group should we enter in? We thought it would make better sense to enter the year 4 and above because it would seem a bit silly if i entered the year three and below categories but we are not sure ????? By the way how is your wife hope she is feeling a lot better. But tell Mrs H whatever happens you should always be positive and keep a smile on your face. Yes, you and Emily should race in Year 4 and above class. What will you name your horse? Mrs H is doing well. We are going to see about a new car for her today! Have a good day! Mr H

I wonder who has been writing in Spanish. Hopefully I can use my translator to find out what is being said! :~*

Hi Mr Steve. Thank-you for the offer of parking in the School field, but it is nice that whenever we come to Burnham we can always stay with June and Al. We would have loved to have come to the School Fete but we will already be in the New Forest on holiday. I am sure there will be another time when we can visit you. Hope you have a good Fete, and the weather is kind to you. I heard the other day that a Headteacher was on a course/meeting and he got up to get his dessert and someone took his seat, anyway the Headteacher in question decided to sit on a glass topped coffee table and guess what? The glass broke!!! I do hope that Headteacher didn't get any glass in an awkward place!! Hopefully he instructed his pupils never to do anything so silly, and I bet he won't do that again!!!!!!!!!!. Have been reading other messages, we do hope Mrs H is doing well, enjoy the Bank Holiday break.
Thanks for your message! I did have a smashing time! I look forward to meeting you one day! We are looking forward to the children's Talent Show on Friday. 16 acts randing from tap dancers to piano recital to magic and singers! Have a good weekend. Best wishes Mr Steve PS June has taken to singing to herself in the mornings - "I'm forever blowing bubbles" is the favourite!

Hi Mr Steve. Sorry it's taken me so long to get in touch, but I had a problem getting onto the website with the address I had got (Guess who gave me it?) Anyway, yes, June has told me the story of the caravan. We all went away this bank holiday in our caravans and had a lovely time, apart from the dreadful rain whilst we were taking down our awnings - mind you the place we went to was PIDLEY near St.Ives Cambs, and yes it was a small place too!!!!!! It also had a Mountain Rescue Team, but none of us could see any mountains!!! Anyway, must go now and get on with some work. Ask June about the time we all went on the Norfolk broads on a dayboat and she had an accident!!!!!!!!!. Good luck with all the fund-raising, perhaps we will be able to come to Burnham one week-end when you have an event. From Ann, Tony and Jason.

Good to hear from you, Ann! I will certainly ask our caretaker about her Norfolk Broads adventure. You would be very welcome here anytime - I am sure the caretaker would let you park on our school field! Why not come for the school fete on July 7th.? We are having a 'Pantomime Horse of the Year Show' :~)

Hello and hi-de-hi from Chennai in India. Today we went to the 2 Boys Towns (orphanages) and gave out the special gift packs to each of the 140 boys living there - what a special treat! They were all so excited to be given a present of their own.... Each pack was in a small plastic wallet and contained a school shirt, pencils, pens, crayons, notebook, soap, a tennis ball, a small car, a rubber, pencil sharpener and your very own TOOTHBRUSHES and TOOTHPASTE. There was so much excitement and we all felt very special to be able to bring such joy and blessing into the boy's lives. I have taken lots of photo's and will get them to Mr Hales when I get home - THANK YOU once again for your generosity and support, it really has made a difference in someone else's life and if you ask me that rocks!
Bye for now!
love from Phil Wisdom

Hello to everyone at Burnham Market School!
Greetings from India! We've just got back from YELLIGIRI Hills where we took 130 orphan boys on an activity holiday, they all had a great time, with lots of games and singing plus a huge hokey-cokey with everyone taking part! The food is great even the crisps are curry flavoured! Many thanks for your sterling work in collecting all those toothbrushes and toothpaste, we have enough to give one each to every boy - this will be a great blessing to them. I'll get lots of pics to send you too! See if you can find me on a map - I'm staying at YMCA, Ritherdon Road, Chennai, India. And the temperature is 33 degrees - phew that's hot! BYE for now and happy New Year! Lots of love from Phil Wisdom. Great to hear from you, Phil! Hope you enjoyed taking all the 120 boys to the circus! Were you the juggler or the clown? Love Mr H :_)

Dear Mr Hales - My sister Rachel has decided to do a fancy dress walk on the 9th of December to raise money to re-decorate two cubicles on the childrens ward at Kings Lynn Hospital. She wants to walk from Wells Next the Sea to Burnham Overy. Can you tell us when you did this walk with Wells School was the route suitable to push a wheelchair along as she may have to be in the wheelchair part of the way. If this route is not good do you know of any others that we could walk along? Thankyou Joe Glass

There are a number of parts which are NOT suitable for wheelchairs, particularly where the path becomes sandy. There are some sand dunes to go over as well! Hope you can sort something out! Perhaps just walking from Wells town to the Lifeboat Station and back 5 times may be best! LoL Mr H :-)

Dear Mr. Hales, here's a joke you may or may not enjoy:
Man goes into vet with his Great Dane and says;"My dog is unwell, whats wrong with him?"
The vet picks him up and looks in his ears, up his nose and in his mouth and says;
"I'm sorry but I'm going to have to put your dog down."
"Why!??!,"screams the man.
"Because he's heavy," replies the vet.

Goodbye and thanks,

The computers we had when I was at school were not exactly that good! I'm a bit of a computer freak! I wish I was at primary, I loved it! I saw that in the primary they have carpets on all the floors! Its not very practical don't you think because in the winter they will get all wet and muddy! Oh well! must go - been talking too much! Bye for now Mr Hales! Yes, we are all carpeted. We must be careful with the mud, but it is so quiet! HAGD! [Mr H]

Dear Mr Hales, we really like the new school website. We have got a quiz question for other children reading this message (it's Dad's question really). The question is, what is the capital of London? Anyway, what we really want to say is that we have got a 17 inch monitor for a computer which we don't need any more. It's the fat sort of monitor not the thin sort. If anybody would like it,please tell one of us at School. It's free for a good home! By the way, the capital of London is 'L' of course. :) S & R Watch the top of the webpage - your question scrolls across! Monitor is great offer - hope someone needs one! (Mr H)

Hello to everyone at Burnham Market!
Charlie is doing very well. He is asleep at the moment and has been since 7.15 pm. This is the earliest he has ever been asleep. Yeah!!!! Hopefully we will have another good night and I can be ready and awake to go to teach my class tommorrow. Enjoy school and please make sure that Grandad Hales behaves himself in school. He does sometimes mess around and disturb classes. Try to keep him in his office. As if I would ever misbehave! Thanks, Pete, for your kind words! LoL Dad alias Mr H :-)

Hi Mr Hales
We were just thinking that the website might be a bit more popular if there were some games. Not silly fighting games though more like quick sum questions and reading quizzes.
p.s mamie's little sister has already been on the site and she loves the colourful pictures, maybe it will be a good theme for a counting game.
Thanks for your comments and ideas! How about you design the game or the quiz? I will help you to publish it on the website. You can write it out or wordprocess it! (Mr H)
